Message from the Middle School Principal

Dear Memorial Families,

I hope everyone is having a relaxing and enjoyable summer break. As we approach the start of a new school year we are all faced with new challenges during this pandemic. Our administrative, custodial, and secretarial staffs have been working throughout the summer months preparing for the new landscape of learning. You will be receiving much more detailed information specific to the virtual and in person learning platforms within the next few weeks.

Meeting the recommendations of the state and providing our students with a safe learning environment will be our top priority. We are also committed to providing all virtual learners with a robust learning experience with live teaching instruction. With so many changes we remain committed to creating an educational atmosphere either at home or in person where students can learn in a caring and creative environment. Our staff encourages students to engage in a lifelong love of learning. As we focus on student achievement we will provide a variety of academic and educational experiences that promote student growth and learning throughout the year. In the core subject areas, teachers will continue to regularly collaborate, analyze data, plan instruction, and develop common assessments to ensure student achievement is attained throughout each grade level. During this unique and challenging school year, I encourage you now more than ever, to take an active role in your child’s learning. Parent involvement plays an even more critical role in our school’s success during these new learning platforms. Ways to support and increase your child’s academic success include:

  • Make attendance, either in school or virtually, a PRIORITY.
  • Check the Parent Portal regularly to stay informed of student progress.
  • Communicate often with your child’s teachers.
  • Read with your child as often as you can.
  • Limit time on digital devices.
  • Review the school day with your child.

The staff and I are looking forward to an educationally rewarding school year with you and your children.

Mr. Robert Porfido
